Post Pregnancy Weight Loss Challenges

By Trishia Serinton

Weight gain during pregnancy is a natural phenomenon. 'Baby weight' refers to the weight that has gained not only by the growing fetus and the enlarging womb but also the deposition of fat around the abdomen. Losing this weight that has been gained following the delivery of a baby can be quite a task. If the mother had some extra weight before pregnancy, it can actually make the process even tougher.

In this article we shall take a brief look at some of the steps that can be adopted to lose weight after pregnancy.

1. Don't forget to stay hydrated

To prevent dehydration after pregnancy, be sure that you consume a lot of liquids. The extra liquid that you consume will also contribute to a fuller feeling in the stomach, which also helps some to avoid eating too much food. However, only drink what your body asks you to, and try not to over hydrate yourself.

2. Avoid strict dieting

It seems counter-intuitive, but breast milk needs to be replenished from the food you eat, and when it is not sufficient, the nutrients to the baby may not be rich enough. While this is not strictly proven, it must also be borne in mind that eating a healthy, nourishing diet is sufficient to allow for slow and natural weight loss rather than a rapid drop in weight. Consuming healthy foods such as plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables are excellent at keeping hunger at bay and making sure the weight comes off gradually.

3. Regular exercise is important

Exercise remains one of the best ways to lose weight. Cardiovascular training such as aerobics and even strength exercises can help burn calories while maintaining muscle mass and bone strength. Exercises can include a brisk walk, jogging, swimming and cross-training. Endorphins are release during exercise, and this will do a lot to elevate one's mood. Stress that is naturally a part of raising a newborn will be reduced because of this. Before anyone begins a new exercise program, it is important to seek the advice of a doctor, to ensure it is safe.

4. Breastfeeding should be continued

Essential fats and nutrients are provided to the baby from breastfeeding, these give the baby the right amount of nutrition and helps to enhance the immune system. The effects of breastfeeding on weight loss are debatable. Even if it doesn't, it is no reason to stop breastfeeding an infant.

5. Be sure to stay well-rested

After the pregnancy is over and the baby is delivered, there can be more effects on the body that have to do with the stress of caring for the newborn. Studies have revealed that new mothers must get over 7 hours of sleep a night in order to lose pregnancy weight.

Conclusion

These methods that are time-tested and proven will help a new mother to shed the excess weight from a pregnancy in a healthy way.
