A Look at Wrinkle Treatments

By Anne Fennell

Cosmetic treatments have advanced tremendously in the recent years, particularly when it comes to the treatment for facial wrinkles. It appears that we now live in a society where face wrinkles place you in a category of being 'old', and with more and more people now on the search for younger looking skin.

How is the method of wrinkle treatments administered? With so many offering the treatments, what is it you should be aware of before you opt for it? In this article, we will examine wrinkle treatments in more detail.

What are wrinkle treatments?

Toxins in the air are all around us, whether it comes from the exhaust from cars, the smoke from cigarettes, or the burning rays of the sun, skin takes it's share of damage and abuse. Wrinkles are just another name for the not very appealing lines that appear on one's face, and in the case of numerous lines, the problem is just compounded.

Removing wrinkles is achieved by using botulinum toxin, as it is an effective wrinkle treatment. To remove lines, all kinds of things are considered, basic skin cream of course, laser treatments, and chemical peels are also performed. While all of these are often used, it appears that botox injections are now becoming more and more popular. However, these days anti-wrinkle creams are being advertised all the time, so while they may be popular they may not necessarily be the most effective.

Which is the most effective treatment?

At this time, this can not be answered with a high degree of certainty. Facial wrinkles respond differently to different treatments in different patients, so it is hard to say which one would work the best. Dermal fillers such as botox injections are known to be effective in this, according to the information accumulated, and they seem to be favored by many.

How long do treatments last for?

The effects correlate to the particular treatment that is provided. Skin creams have short lived effects and need repeat application often, sometimes daily to show any effect whatsoever. More advanced treatments such as dermal fillers and botox injections can last a few months.

The comparison of cost and results

For treatments such as these, it can't be done for a bargain price. The process chosen and the treatment provider are the deciding factors in cost, it can be around $300 or even up to $3000 or more, as these advanced treatments take specialized equipment, materials, and training. A less expensive option are skin creams, but they need to be used frequently, and products kept replenished. Cost effectiveness can only be calculated over a period of time as each patient may require treatments at different times. Botox and other dermal fillers are beginning to look like the most practical and cost effective treatment for facial wrinkles, over time. There are also some doctors who make the claim that the most economical means of reducing wrinkles is by CO2 laser.

Downtime following procedures

No recovery time is necessary for skin creams. However, amongst the more advanced treatments of facial wrinkles, it appears that microdermabrasion probably has the least downtime. This of course does not mean that it is the greatest treatment available, or that patients prefer the treatment process any more, as it is reported to be kind of unpleasant.

Summary

Wrinkle treatments for facial wrinkles are many. These different treatments have pros and cons that must be weighed by the patient. Patients should take all of these things into careful consideration, including looking at the provider's credentials and experience, the price, and which treatments they feel they can handle best.
